Comments: I am presently living in Franklinville, NJ with my wife Sylvia who I met in Morgantown, West Virginia while attendning west Virginia university. We hope to celebrate our 50th year anniversary this coming August 22, 2008. I retired from the Camden City School District in NJ as superintendent on March 1, 1999 and now I am doing consultant work for the New Jersey Department of Education. I have 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. I saw a number of my classmates while playing in my jazz band in Cleveland, Ohio during the period of 1958 to 1962. Unfortunately, my father Roy Dawson who was the vice principal at Stratton and Woodrow Wilson passed away on March 1, 2001. He was 93 at the time of his death. My Mother, who was an elementary teacher in the Mabscott area, passed April 30, 1986. I now appreciate more than ever the education received from the great Stratton High school.

However, I did order a DVD of the reunion and am thoroughly enjoying seeing everyone and hearing about their lives since gradution. My husband and I will celebrate 46 years of marriage this December, and we have resided in Colorado since 1963. We have one daughter who is married and lives nearby. Since I always wanted to be a secretary, all the business classes at WWHS prepared me for achieving that goal. I was an executive secretary and office manager for several companies until I retired 4 years ago.

Comments: I graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1956. After graduation I worked in Washington D.C. for a while for the Department of the Army, as a secretary in the office of the Quartermaster General. I returned to Beckley in early 1958, working at Raleigh Wholesale Grocery Company, from there I went to Work for Procter & Gamble as a sales rep, retiring in 1979.

I married Margaret (Gravely) Mays in 1957. We have two daughters, Nona and Angela, and two sons Jackie Jr, and Timothy.

We have 6 Grandchildren, DJ Gunther 24, Jasmine Wood age 14 Andrew Mays age 10, Devon Mays age 12, Megan Mays age 10, and Aleksus Mays age 4.

We spend our retired years, and have been Newspaper Carriers for some 34 years now in Maxwell Hill, hoping to retire again soon, for the second time.

Most of our spare time is spent with the Grandchildren, busing them from school to activities, which they are all involved in.

Our Grandaughter Jasmine 14 entered Woodrow Wilson Academy this year as a 9th grader.

Our home in Raleigh is now 107 years old, and we spend our spare time gardening, and we do most of our own home repair. We just within the past year have added a new room to our home in Raleigh.

A bit of sad news - Peggy Holliday just lost her only son who was 48 yrs. old due to a sudden heart attack. This happened just last week. Drop her a card and remember her in your prayers.

Comments: Even though I didn't graduate with you guys (moved away in 1955 to Birmingham) I still feel a close attachment and have many fond memories of my time in Beckley. Thanks to phone calls from Jack Williams and more recently from my old friend and neighbor, Howard Mollohan I was unearthed. Linda Hutchins Day was kind enough to email me information about the upcoming reunion and the Alumni website (which I have really enjoyed). Hopefully I can make the reunion. I haven't seen anyone from Beckley since the late 50's (Kay Carol Short in Chattanooga and Carolyn Patton in Fredricksburg).

I graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Architecture and practiced in Atlanta until I retired in 1993. I have been married to my second wife, Jean for 9 years and we have 2 grown children by her first marriage.

Comments: I never left this area except a year of teaching school in Ohio. I married Nancy (Kessinger) in 1962 and have one daughter who is a registered nurse here in Beckley. I have one granddaughter, Tearson Annie, who is 4 years old and a doll baby. I taught at Park Junior High (old WWHS) for over 39 years plus my military and sick days that we can count in our retirement, which added up to 44 1/2 years. I retired this last June and now just subsitute. My wife retired from Bell Atlantic with 36 years service.. We have a 90 acre farm out in the Grandview area and plan to move out there soon. I retired from the military after 25 years as a Lt Col. We have not attend the reunion in June but plan to in 2004. Please email me, would love to hear from classmates from 1956 or others. Live next door to daughter, Trecia, vice-principal at Stonewall Jackson Middle School and her husband, fireman with the City of South Charleston and grandaughter, and a 15 month old great grandson. I retired from W. Va. Department of Motor Vehicles in 1994, and now keep busy babysitting, swimming at the YWCA 3 times a week, play Bingo at the Wal-mart (senior citizens only) and joined the Red Hat Society. Comments: Hey guys; I graduated from Duke U. in 1960; graduated from Med. Coll. of Va. School of Dentistry in 1964; Finished my postgrad. training at the U. of Alabama Med. Center in 1968.I practised periodontal surgery in Va. Beach Va. for about 30 years. Retired after several back surgeries in 1995. I have four children and two granddaughters. My wife Connie and I and 3 yellow labs and 6 cats live on our farm in Highland Co. Va. My oldest, Steve, and his wife and two daughters live in Charleston S. Ca. where they are both ob-gyn physicians. My daughter Marci lives in Va. Beach Va. and works for Stihl Corp. My son Patrick also lives in Va. Beach and is in real estate and has his own band. My youngest son, Matt, is in Roanoke Va. where he is attending ECPI Technical College and also is involved as a musician. I just got back from a weekend in Beckley where Howard Hurt, Jack Williams, Pat Blymyer, Don and Dave Farris and myself and wives got together for a reunion of "The Big Six".We went downtown to where the "Kozy Korner" used to be and walked from one end of town to the other trying to reminise about what was where etc. Went out to the old football field and just spent time trying to catch up with each other. While I have seen and kept in touch with Jack and Howard, I hadn't seen Pat or Dave since 1957 and not much more of Don. Comments: I noticed that my father, Hubert Jackson was listed in the Woodrow Wilson Hall of Fame, 1983, but his name is not spelled correctly. It is listed as Hobert Lackson. Thank you for your work on the web page, it was very entertaining to look through. However, I was disappointed that there was not one picture of my father who led the school while it was being integrated with Stratton High School. Additionally, he was heavily envolved in the planning, building and move into the new high school. These were very trying times and are often over looked because he did such a good job of pulling it all together. Thank you, Joyce Jackson Davis, 1956.
[Joyce, this was a definite oversight and I have added a separate picture of Mr. Jackson as w631 on the picture page, right after the picture of Mr. Peregoy. There are actually four pictures of your father on the website already -- from the 1941, 1955, 1968, and 1974 yearbooks, although they are generally very small pictures. I happen to have a 1932 yearbook, so I looked through it to scan his senior picture, but it seems there is no photo of him in the yearbook, although he is mentioned as a senior on the football team. Have been enjoying retirement - have had my mother living with me off and on for the past two years. She is now in a personal care home in Danese. I am babysitting for a 4-month old baby boy and loving every minute of it. We are in the process of building a hunting camp at Millpoint, WV (Pocahontas County) in order to ride our 4-wheelers wherever we want to go. Plan to attend my husband's family reunion in Louisiana this year and then plenty of fishing and camping for us. Looking forward to our class get togethers. We were in France and Turkey with the Air Force from 1966-68 and returned to Duke from 1968 to 1972 for my Residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Have lived in Charleston, Minneapolis, Richmond, IN; Dayton, Cleveland & Columbus, OH.; then Sacramento, Irvine and San Luis Obispo, CA. Have worked in newspapers, hospitals, restored and created a bed and breakfast in San Luis Obispo where am now Director of Development for a Newman Catholic Center as well as co-owner of Garden Street Inn. Have two children, son in working for The Baltimore Sun and daughter for the Democratic Policy Committee of the House of Representatives in DC. One year ago, blessed with first grandchild, Jackson Winslow Hawkins (presidential sounding, eh?). Currently separated from husband. Got news of this website from Rick Dennis, who left Beckley before he graduated but is Episcopal Priest in New York State . . . also "first boyfriend in life". Our daughter and her husband Bob have presented us with 5 grandchildren, Lauren, Jordan, Joel, Josiah & Micah, they are all blessings. I just retired from Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. God has blessed me, in being able to use my Art talent in my work over the years. I am a watercolorist and belong to Allied Artist of WV. Do some free-lance art work in my home. Doug and I enjoy traveling in our red Corvette we got for our 40th wedding anniversary in 1998. This WWHS page is Great! Hope to hear from some friends from WWHS.
