For the past several years, The Class of 1974 has sponsored a sign at Flying Eagle (recently renamed Van Meter) Stadium on the campus of WWHS. This year, new signs will be made at a cost of $ 150. If you would like to make a donation towards the sign, you can make a check out to the Beckley Quarterback Club and mail it to me. I will accumulate all the checks and then forward them on to the school. I will pledge $ 25. If we get more than $ 150, that would be fine as the team can always use the money. Comments: Wow,the power of google,huh! I did'nt know this website was here. I'm still the same dorky guy I was in high school. My hair is much shorter now and oh so grey. I have been a coal miner for over 30 yrs. Married to my high school sweetheart,Cathy Meadows, class of 75,(thank you Tracie Shumate Salango), for over 33 yrs. We have 2 kids, Chris,32,in Nitro and Erica,27,in Princeton. We have a grandson,Ryan,3,and one who will be named in the not too distant future. I too have enjoyed all of the reunions. Several of our classmates try to gather for lunch once a month here in town just to keep in touch. I read this site aleast once a week and finally decided to E-mail in. I have live in New York since 1974, married 30 years to Mike,two grown children Taneda 28 and Ahmad 26yrs. No grandkids yet. Thank god, much too young for that (: I have attended the school reunions over the years and have really enjoyed them. My grandmother still lives in WV and I do come home every now and then.
I have worked in Hospital administration for about thirty years. I would love to hear from my classmates. If you are reading this, I would love to hear from Suzy Treadway. Shady Spring. We lived at Maple Fork, until 1983, during which time I worked at Beckley Hospital in
Medical Records. Together we pastored Shiloh Chapel Church, Mt. Hope, WV. In 1983 our family moved to
Gallup, New Mexico, USA, to begin Missionary work among the Navajo Indians and others. We have been here
for over 21 years now. I am currently teaching in our Christian Day school. My daughter Alicia
(28) lives in PA with husband and daughter Ashley (3). She is a registered nurse. My son Jonathan
(26) lives here in Gallup, with his wife and two sons, Chaise (7) & Dylan (4), he works for
Burlington Northern - Santa Fe Railroad, as a conductor/brakeman.

Dear Classmates,
The Reunion committee is busy upgrading the photo CD that we pre-sold at the Reunion on Saturday night.
For those who were unable to attend, we have created a photo CD with all of the Senior pictures from the 1974 Echo included, along with pictures from the 10th, 20th and 30th reunions. You can purchase this photo CD by mailing a check in the amount of $15 to WWHS Class of 1974, P.O. 715, Beckley, WV 25802.
We apologize to all who expected the CD by now, but we have been reviewing, choosing, scanning and copying literally hundreds of photos to add to the CD. Depending on the number and size of the photos, we may have to create two CD's. There will be no additional cost for the extra CD.

been fortunate enough to stay in the area since graduation and have even been able to build our own

Johnston's Credit Union at the Veterans Hospital in Beckley!!! Atleast this time we will have

Comments: Wow! This is nice. It is funny how getting older causes you to reflect. I
left Beckley after graduating from Woodrow. I have been back often to visit. Couldn't stay away.
Many times my mind wondered back to "school days" and classmates, wondering "where are they now?".
I am married to Terry Dunnavant (for 20 years now) and have 2 children, Amber(19) and Joshua(17). I
attended Johnson Bible College and UT in Knoxville for two years and tranfered to Nashville Tech. in
Nashville, TN to study Occupational Therapy. At present Terry and I are houseparents at a children's home
so we are guardians to 3 boys, Levi(14), Allen(12), and JJ(9) and more on the way! I still work part time
in the schools as an occupational therapist. Life is good but hectic as most of you know so if anyone has

I married Steve Cross one year after graduation (he, too, is a graduate of WWHS - 1974). We have
been married for 26 years and have two sons, Joshua, 20, a freshman at Shepherd College
in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and Caleb, 17, a senior at WWHS. Even though I live in Beckley,

Comments: Went to work not long out of WWHS in the coal mines. Got married, have
5 children. Divorced 2+ years. After being laid off from the mines I
went to electronics school and took a job as a telescope operator at
the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, WV. After 16+
years I am still here. I am now a cryogenic technician. Pocahontas
County is a beautiful place. Snowshoe Ski resort and The Raven golf
course are here. I get to Beckley about once a month to visit my mom.

the beauty of the first dusting of white snow on a winter day... I
miss the familiarity of passersby and the wave from a stranger... I
remember the smells and sounds of the rustling of leaves from an
autum day... And, I remember the cold, cold days that frequented the
Flying Eagle's brand of football. And now, I bask in the warm, warm

Virginians are the best! My wife, Robin Perdue Thompson -'76, and I
are skiing, biking and servants to our dog, Duke. Robin is a
Professional Speaker on "Making Work Fun" and "Keeping Good
Employees." I am her Executive Assistant (after surviving 20 years of
engineering). It is all about friends and family. I look forward to

Comments: After graduating I moved to Morgantown for a few
years and then to Bradley for two years. In 1979 I moved to Atlanta,
Ga. but miss my family in West Va. real bad. I think I have 60
relatives within a 5 mile radios. It's been hard being away from
them. I have been with IBM for the last 7 years, am divorced with no
children.

Comments: After Graduation, I went to work at "Newport News
Shipbuilding and Drydock" for 6 Months. Then 1975 came back to
"Almost Heaven" West Virginia and started with Consolidation Coal
Company" and was employed with them until 1993 when I got "Laid Off."
I took training, got my "CDLs' and went to work for "Southwest Motor
Freight" where I saw 44 of the 48 Continental States and Canada but
the "West Virginia Hills" have been in my blood for too long and they
called me back in 1995. I went to work for "Mountaineer Investigation
& Security" until November 15 1995 when I again got "Laid Off." I
went to work for "Freedom Security" until March 21 1997 when I had an
accident leaving me "Paralyzed" from the waist down but, I haven't
given up and never will. I'm in the process of building a "Site"
where I'll answer all questions that I can from anyone who is curious
about "Paralysis." If anyone hears of Our "Reunion" please contact

Comments: Moved back to Beckley after living in Miami,Fl and
New Jersey for 10 years. Divorced for two years and single. Working
as a pharmacist at Raleigh General Hospital currently. Would love to
hear from any of my high school friends. I am listed in the phone
book.
Name: Bill Chaffin
Class of: 1974
Now living in: Falling Waters, WV

Comments: After graduating, went to WVU for one year and
really did not like it (although the partying was out of control!).
Transferred to Concord College from which I graduated in 1978 with a
Bachelor of Social Work and a wife! Sue was from the Martinsburg, WV
area, near to which we now live. Our oldest, Joshua, was born in
1979 and our youngest, Daniel, was born in 1986. I currently am
employed by the West Virginia Youth Advocate Program where I work
with foster children. I play banjo and am learning dulcimer,
autoharp, fiddle and mandolin. Sue is learning mandolin as well.
Joshua plays trumpet and guitar. Daniel plays tenor saxophone and
bass. I visit Beckley two to three times a year and would hope to get
back into contact with some of my old friends.
