Comments: I just wanted to update my email address. We still live just outside Charlotte. Still married and doing great. I'm a construction project manager for the County School System here. Since we are one of the fastest growing counties in the country, I stay pretty busy! My daughter is graduating from high school this year and my son will be in the 9th grade. Amanda was in the band and will attend community college next year until she decides exactly what she wants to do. Josh will keep playing his trumpet next year, drop football and concentrate on wrestling. He's done pretty well. Hopefully he'll keep improving!!! Would love to hear from anyone. Take care!

Comments: WWHS Veterans Memory Project:

The Veterans Memory Project continues to amaze me at the scope and personal stories I have had with families throughout Raleigh County. What we have discovered so far is 490 men and women from Raleigh County have given their lives in the following wars:
- WW I (53)
- WW II (290)
- Vietnam (67)
- Korea (80)
- Gulf (0)

Each story is much larger than life and still very close to each families hearts. For example, I discovered my Uncle (Dillard Gene Earehart - 8/7/1922 - 7-18-1944) did not graduate from WWHS but left school to join my Grandfather to make money at his local garage and wrecker service to support a family of 12. He was driving a wrecker under age and after mid-night 7 days a week.

In turn my uncle, Charlie Earehart joined the para-troopers in WWII because they made an additional $25 per jump to send home. Charlie made it back home and established a major regional auto dealership but Dillard was killed in action on July 18th, 1944 in St. Lo, France.

In that time the US Goverment sent each family a check that made the payment for the first house my Grandfather had on Johnstown Road adjacent the Bowlwick. The only time my mother remembers seeing her father cry was opening that envelope from the US Goverment.

In that time there were county wide "blackouts" just in case of bombings and rations of food and medals. Almost every family was so poor that the only way to get by was by kids dropping out of school and getting jobs BEFORE they could join the service. Many changed their birthdate to go in early to send money back home. To the best of my research so far in WWII, if you got on the train to war from Raleigh County one of four young men did not make it home.

The one very apparent part of this project is that I am way over my head. One grand mother from Shady Spring called me last week that lost her son in Vietnam asked me if this project was exclusive to only WWHS people? Her exact words were, "Just because my son went to Shady Springs and was killed in action should not exempt him to being honored", and I sure do agree...thus the project grows larger.

I'm not as worried about the size or time involved as in getting the exact facts corrent and accounting for every member correct. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated. We have (so far) 490 young men and women that need to be honored and plenty over in Iraq as we speak!

Comments: I continue to enjoy reading all the posts of WWHS Alumni and where they are and have accomplished during the years. This website is great in following information that would be almost impossible to track and seems to keep people in touch from generation to generation. For example I was sad to see Bill Sigmund who happened to be a tremendous WWHS 1948 athlete (classmate and golfing friend of my dad, John Daniel 48' for decades) passed away and was able to contact and send his daughter Becky a note in Atlanta.

It is great to see all the Culicerto's (Ed 1974, Phil 1979, Danny 1980, Joey 1983, Kenny 198?, Robby 198?, Vincent 198?) who I grew up with 5 houses away and had to fight every other day join the WWHS Hall of Fame every half a decade. Great to see Michael Peelish 1979 (father is Vick Peelish 194? Captain of WVU Football Team) setting the Wall Street world on fire at Foundation Coal.

Just this weekend I found out my cousin Diane Earehart 1977(daughter of my uncle, Bill Earehart Class of 1945 and brother of my mother Betty Earehart Daniel Class of 1949)who married Mike Purnesti 1977, daughter - Diangelo Purnesti won the WVU Homecoming Queen contest when my sister Kathy Daniel 1976 (class mate and friend of Becky Sigmund 1976)called from the 50 yard line at the WVU - Mississippi State Football game.

The reason for all this rambling is this website does a great job of keeping WWHS Alumni in touch from generation to generation. What this website and all of us might not have a very good handle on is who the REAL notable/accomplished/hall of fame worthy alumni should be. If you have a few moments go to the History of WWHS 1975 icon on scroll to 1945. There is a list of 61 WWHS young men under age of 20 that did not get a chance to enjoy a chance at accomplishing "things" in life that lost their lives in World War II. One was my uncle Dillard Gene Earehart that I never got to meet.

It would be great if we could think of a way to honor these men along with others that served the country at the school, football stadium or on this website in some way. It is hard to imagine the more than 15% of an average WWHS class would be wisked away 60 years ago without more than a paragraph deep in cyberspace of www.wwhsalumni.org. Without a question a different time, different generation and different sense of purpose!

On May 5th, I will be graduating from Coastal Carolina University (Finally!) Twenty-five years ago I put my schooling on hold while my husband got his Masters and my children grew up and went through college. My oldest daughter still has two years of law school (maybe I'll get a free will or home closing out of her, LOL)

I'm going on 23 years married (to one..the same man), Robert Wood. Our 1st 10yrs in USAF, met in Myrtle Beach. Had 1st child in MB, SC. Johnathan 21-now driving 18 wheelers all across US (tagged for 48 states). 2nd child in Dover, NH. . Cori Marie 19-doesn't yet know what she wants to do or be (except away from mom & dad). That means we're empty nesters. Robert is now an electrical engineer for General Motors...and doing well. He has traveled to Europe several times and Japan for GM...another trip next month. I'm in my 25th year of nursing and have had licenses 5 states so far. All of my family are still in WV (we get there 1 or 2 times a yr.) My husband's family is here where he grew up.....I'd like to move back to a more southern area. Anybody out there need a REAL GOOD elecrtical engineer....past experieces include electrical maint. on the F-1 11 from the 1st gulf war.

Comments: You probably know me as Danny, which is what my family still calls me. I have been living in Raleigh, NC for the past 17 years. I was in Miami for 5 years before that after graduating from WV Tech with a master's degree in civil engineering. I have a wonderful wife I met at WV Tech (Terri) and two fine teenage boys (Alex and Jake) who try my patience on a regular basis. I still like hiking and backpacking and have picked up mountain biking as an interest. I flew airplanes for 10 years before I got too busy and it became too expensive. Comments: Damn.... It has been a wild ride. First the Marine Corps, living in Paris, France - Africa, Kansas City Mo and Washington DC. Univ of Maryland undergrad and Syracuse Univ grad along the way. ran the Marathan de Paris in 2:57. Won many running trophies in 82-86. Still hit the smoke. Amsterdam, Bangkok, late night clubs and great kids too. Traveled to 47 foreign countries - 3:00 a.m. in Belgrade Serbia with Jimi Hendiz and trance competing. Drink some Heineken. So many sexy women - almost lost count til I got lonely one night in Albania after a few drinks and counted into the hundred something...then remember more days later. White guy marries a black chick from DC. She is an attorney and attending Harvard now. I found out my ancesters entered in Boston. Sgt. John Hewitt was a Mass Minuteman who fought on April 19 and Bunker Hill. Been to Crete, Egypt the Great Wall of China.. St. Pete, Russia of course Rome and London - seen the seven wonders as Led Zeppelin asked. Still hit the herb from time to time - secret though. Hell it is just like drinking cognac - no worse...

Made half a mil in DC - still hittin it. Hoping for a few more hot wenches to rock my world...Love the ladies and always will.. just get off the Oprah trip and lose the weight... Out.

In March of this year I moved back to Beckley from San Jose, CA. I have one daughter Christy, 26- from earlier marriage. She is still living in San Jose, with no plans to relocate any time soon. I've been married to Kyle for the past 11 years. I have one step-daughter Tanya, who lives in Maryland and we have 4 grandkids! So I'm Grandma Rose!

It's good to be back in Beckley. I'm working in Sales & Engineering for a local ISP, Web Design & Hosting company selling Web Designs and I LOVE IT!! My best friends are crack addicts Bill and Bob, they say hey. I try to climb down to the 7/11 to buy a 1/5 of maddog when I can collect enough cans on the sides of the road. I found a nice shoe the other day and I'm still looking for the other one. There's a little blood on the shoe but I'm still hopefull. I've adopted this cute little rat I call fuzzy. Comments: I'm living on the NC coast with husband Brian and pets - I have children vicariously through my sisters - its alot cheaper that way - and the best part is no gray hair.
We've been here about 7 years now and just now starting to feel like home. We lived in NJ 40 minutes out of NYC previously and had access to anything and everything that you could dream of - so it is a huge change to be in a small and slow environment like Morehead. But being on the ocean is well worth it since we are very into water sports.
I just quit my job with Federal Express - was a courier/driver for them for the past 6.5 years and just had enough of the constant stress. So now its time to figure out what to do next.

Comments: Yes, I'm still alive. Yes, your mother was right. "Don't you hang out with that Patterson boy, he's trouble. But if the police come, stick with him, he always gets away!"...Still me after all these years. Still love killing brain cells (been to Amsterdam twice) and still causeing the normal population to cringe. I've lived so fast and hard I feel i've already squeezed two lives in my 41 years (well, 42 in 3 weeks) I'm starting a brand new chapter in life. My mid life crisis was my second wife pursuing a life without me, so at 41, I'm starting all over. From scratch. I walked out leaving everything behind. That was in 03/24/02. I'm off to a good start. I've found a good woman who loves me for being me (yes ,I know.....What's wrong with her?) I'm looking forward to my first offspring im May of this year. It's a boy! So consider this your warning (the goverment hoped i would'nt reproduce) Armigeden is on it's way. You've got 18 years or so, give or take a year. In brief, I've lived in, W.V., N.C., Go., Fla., Tex., Vir, Mar., I've been a Army medic, then a Jarhead marine. Zookeeper, Artist, Kennel owner, home builder, Maintanace man, Poolman, etc, etc....Guess I'm just an east coast Gypsy. Well hope i made you smile in remembrince. Would love to hear from anyone. Comments: Just updating my old post. I got tired of the nasty east coast winter weather in January and decided to go on a cruise compliments of the US Navy. I am currently commanding one our nations finest warship's at the "tip of the spear". It doesn't get any better than this tax free pay, hostile fire pay, and family seperation pay. There is plenty of sunshine, blowing sand, got to go through the Suez Canal again, and every day is filled with excitement. So from the tip of the spear life is exciting and being the boss is great! Comments: UPDATING ENTRY! I am now attending Law School at Ohio Northern University in Ohio. My permanent residence is still in Beckley with my husband, Tim Hylton, and my youngest son Matthew. Matthew will be graduating WWHS this spring and heading for college in Nashville. My middle son, Anthony, is married and has produced my first grandson, Morgan Gabriel. He's a doll baby with a great sense of humor. For those of you looking toward grandparent-hood... it's a blast! My oldest son is graduating from Shepherd College this spring and will be attending medical school in the fall.
