She was in her 85th year. Born Goldie Helen Hanks on Feb. 26, 1924, at Lanark, she was the youngest of seven children born to the late Fred and Ocie Redden Hanks. Her sister, Bess Richmond; and brothers, James, Willard, Clen, Okey and Earl Hanks, all preceded Goldie in death. Goldie spent her childhood at Lanark. Widowed at the age of 50, she was a “tough little bird” who had to forge her way through life. And so now, it is most fitting they say goodbye to her on Mother’s Day. “So, take your flight little bird. Go see your God and all your family that has gone on before you.” She is the loving mother of four surviving children; they are Julius (Skip) Marcum Jr., and his wife, Wanda, Patricia Faye Snuffer and her companion, Curtis W.
